Redwood Lodge Arabians was founded by Sue Patrick in 1982 and has
its origins on 120 picturesque acres at Jimboomba, Queensland Australia. The
first Arabian horses were predominately of Crabbet bloodlines and lived
alongside the farm's Warmblood breeding program. In no time at all the
charismatic temperaments of the Arabians enraptured Sue and the decision was
made to disperse the Warmblood herd and establish a small but elite herd of
purebred Arabian horses. Sue's dedication to fulfilling her dreams knew no
bounds and whilst on a holiday in America with husband Trevor, and son Steve,
Sue visited the magnificent stallion El Shaklan (by Shaker El Masri) and his
legendary dam Estopa (Tabal x Uyaima), the then reigning queen of Om El Arab.
Sue realised horses of the "Golden Cross" exhibited the characteristics she most
admired in the Arabian and from that moment was haunted by their splendour and
became obsessed with acquiring horses of these bloodlines.
A friendship was forged between the Patrick's and Sigi and Jay Constanti, owners
of Om El Arab International. In 1987 when Estopa was 21-years old she was bred
to the pure Spanish stallion AN Malik (Galero x Ispahan) and Sue placed a
pre-birth option to purchase the foal from this mating. The following year
Estopa foaled her only pure Spanish daughter and the treasured Malikah Estopa
arrived in Australia at ten months of age. In1990 the exquisite El Shaklan
daughter Cambriaa (from Zafiraa by Mohssen) was purchased. The Estopa bloodline
was further intensified by the importation in 1996 of one of Om El Arab
International's most prized mares, the stunning and impeccably bred Om El Amira
Estopa (Sanadik El Shaklan x Bint Estopa).
In 1998 another angelic daughter of
El Shaklan was purchased, *Bint Mohena, a full sister to Sanadik El Shaklan.
Bint Mohena was later sold to Rob and Sandy Wolf of New Zealand and Om El Amira
Estopa was sold to Marieta Salas of Spain. Cambriaa sadly passed away in 2005.
The farm's stallion roster was originally headed by the prepotent *GG Magnetism (AN
Malik x CC Montessa), imported from North America in 1987.
He has proved to be an excellent outcross for the Estopa bloodline. GG Magnetism's spectacular
son Wind 'N' Fire (from Windella Silver Fire) has up held the family tradition
by sweeping all before him in the show arena. The highlight of his stellar show
career was when he was sashed 1997 New Zealand National Champion Stallion. Other GG Magnetism progeny to excel include RL Essine who was crowned National Junior
Champion of Denmark in 2001 and was 2001 All Nations Cup Reserve Champion Junior
Male.
A champagne year for Redwood Lodge was 1994 when the exciting young stallion *Om
El Abadan (Carmargue x Bint Estopa) was imported. His classic Arabian type and
extravagant movement gained him the coveted title of Australian National Reserve
Champion Stallion in 1995. In 1997 *Om El Abadan was campaigned in Europe where
he was awarded Reserve Senior Male at the All Nations Cup, Aachen Germany and
Reserve World Champion Stallion at the Salon de Cheval, Paris. In 1998 Abadan
was sold to the Royal family of Saudi Arabia and was crowned Supreme National
Champion. Sadly Abadan passed away in 2005.
The shining star of Redwood Lodge is Espano Estopa (*Om El Abadan x *Malikah
Estopa). Espano was born in Australia in 1995 living the
first two years of his live in relative calm and luxury.
At his first show,
the 1997 A-class Arabian Titles Show he was awarded Junior Champion Colt and
Supreme Exhibit. The following year he was Junior Champion Colt at the
prestigious East Coast Championships in Sydney and was exported to Germany for
the European show season. His destiny was for filled when he was crowned World
Champion Junior Male. Espano Estopa also holds the title of 1998 All Nations Cup
Champion Junior Male. This captivating young stallion will fly the Redwood Lodge
banner well into the 21st Century.
In 1998 Espano’s first foals were born. This crop included
Redwood Lodge Romantik from Cambriaa (El Shaklan x Zafiraa). In 2000 Romantik,
along with Redwood Lodge Abadaar and Redwood Lodge Essine were all Champions at
the East Coast Championships in
Sydney and together were exported to
Europe. Romantik
was Champion Filly in Kreuth, qualifying her for the All Nations Cup where she
was second to El Dorada. In 2001 Romantik was Champion Filly at the All
Nations Cup and her full sister Redwood Lodge Antiguaa was second place-getter.
Romantik then went to the World Championships and was awarded res. World
Champion Filly.
In 2002 Redwood Lodge Antiguaa was first place-getter at the
All Nations Cup and European Championships, and second at the World
Championships. Espano Estopa is also the sire of the 2004 Reserve World
Champion Junior Male LVA Maximus.
In 2001 Redwood Lodge moved the breeding facility
to Europe and the horses currently reside at Redwood Lodge Europe in France
where the future development of this world class breeding programme will
continue to lead the way under the expert management of Steve Patrick.
